There are guidelines, rules, and skills that professional lighting designers use to add functional illumination to a space and make it aesthetically pleasing. If you are an interior or lighting designer, architect, or builder, you have an eye and experience in how lighting affects your projects.
Barrett’s Technology Solutions is not a lighting designer, but we do offer lighting installation and control solutions for the Chicago area and Lake Geneva, WI, clients. We aim to partner with design and build professionals to show you what's possible with the latest LED lighting and control solutions. Overhead Ambient Lighting
We can show you several examples of the latest in ceiling ambient lighting in the lighting lab. The latest LED technology offers many new options in lighting levels, dimming capability, and aesthetics. Would large cans look better in the space? Or would smaller ones blend better with the design? Would a square or round design look best? You'll be able to envisage these at the lighting lab.
As you likely know, interior lighting is no longer an exclusively high-voltage affair. Low-voltage solutions are also available that may simplify some installations and require less electrical rework. We can show you that options and explain the installation and integration requirements. We’ll also be able to show you newer options like linear lighting, which can offer an entirely new way to think about under-cabinet, step, and shelf illumination.
Dimming and Color
Not all lights dim the same way. While incandescent light was always inherently dimmable, you had to have the right match of control with fixture and bulb to ensure a full range of dimming and not have annoying buzzing at low levels. While LED lights don’t buzz, they are not all created equal when it comes to dimming capability. We can show you the types of lights that can “warm dim” to the candlelight range for the effect you may desire in some spaces.
Some things that may not be as easy to visualize are the technical aspects of lighting, like beam spreads, color temperature, and CRI. Beam spread refers to the amount of space a light covers over different distances. Color temperature is something you already understand, like cooler lighting hues versus warmer lighting – but in the lab, you'll be able to compare different options and how they affect a room and furnishings. And CRI (Color Rendering Index) refers to a light's ability to reveal the color of an object faithfully, which is highly important when you are carefully curating color combinations in your interior designs. Our lab will help you understand the differences in these areas for various lighting options.
The Effect of Control
As we are experts in lighting automation and control, we not only want to show you how control systems can enhance your projects, but also how they match up with the types of lighting you choose for the project. Depending on the effect you want to achieve, some control solutions will match up better than others for dimming and color capabilities.
